Prospectives for development of the polymer industry discussed in Nizhniy Novgorod

.

Chair of the Association of Plastics Processors, Head of R&D of R&P POLYPLASTIC Mikhail Katsevman held a video working meeting with representatives of the region. During the conference with the participation of head of JSC “Corporation of development of the Nizhniy Novgorod region” Timur Halitov the region’s potential for development of the chemical industry and capabilities of the Special Economic Zone “Kulibin” were discussed.

SEZ “Kulibin” has been created less than a year ago in Dzershinsk on the premises of JSC Plastik and has a total area of 73 hectares with potential for further expansion to 430 hectares. According to Mikhail Katsevman, the territory of SEZ has all the advantages required for locating plastic production:  good location and access roads.

Members of the Association of Plastics Processors made a decision to familiarize with the capabilities of SEZ “Kulibin” as the plastics industry may become one of the drivers for future regional development. “Consumption of plastics is constantly growing in Russia; in 2020 it amounted to approximately 6 million tons. However, regrettably, the percentage of imported finished products is still quite considerable – around 20%. Development of national procession industry will allow to reduce this rate. While placement of new production sites in Special Economic Zones should contribute to further localization and creation of cooperative chains “production of compound materials – shipment of goods” in the Nizhniy Novgorod reason”, noted Mikhail Katsevman.

The expert presented a specific case of Togliatti in the Samara region. Production sites of the leading Russian compounder R&P POLYPLASTIC and international auto alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi are located there. Based on compact localization the chain allows to optimize interaction between its participants.

During the videoconference representatives of the Association of Plastics Processors, regional authorities and processors also discussed concerns about production of plastic and possible solutions. The participants concluded that despite unbiased difficulties further development of import substitution in the plastics procession industry may contribute to a large inflow of investments to the region’s economy.

Following the videoconference Association of Plastics Processors and JSC “Corporation of development of the Nizhniy Novgorod region” made a decision on promoting further cooperation, particularly, in the sphere of experience exchange.
