Analysis of the polyolefin markets

.

Specialists from the Russian chemical processing industry are unanimous in stating a general plummeting of production. Polyolefin producers and recyclers, along with distributors and customs officers were in attendance at the “Polyethylene. Polypropylene 2017” exhibition in Moscow. Discussions on price policies drew the most attention from attendants. As of today, all processors state a plummeting in production regardless of specification: pipes, tapes and moulding items. Whereas, materials suppliers claim growth and development perspectives.

Estimation of this situation differs: producers claim that high material prices resulted into the current stagnation, while suppliers argue substantiality of the high prices claim. A poll was conducted at the meeting, which revealed the main concern as absence of financial opportunities in the population.

Mikhail Katsevman – Development department director, Research and Production Enterprise POLYPLASTIC – presented his report overviewing application of polyolefin on the market.  According to the expert, the Russian market – 250 thousand tons, 10% from the amount of polyethylene and polypropylene. Notwithstanding a major process of switching from imported to domestic materials has been going on for the last year, to some extent the high exchange rate expedited this process. Although, the trend is suffering a downfall. “Nevertheless POLYPLASTIC’s composite division continues to increase supplies, we were able to get loose of the crisis situation and are competitive with European companies in the aspect of capacities” – concluded Mikhail Katsevman.
